I completely understand the idea of two conflicting emotions coexisting and think you’ve explained your experience of it in a way that really makes sense. I also fully appreciate that your choices (and any of our choices) don’t need to make sense to anyone else and it’s really refreshing to see that laid out so clearly.
Wishing all of you the best with the move. What a lovely legacy the vegetable patch will be for the new people and you can take all of your learnings to the new place. Living by the sea is an absolute dream of mine so I am really happy you all get to live that.
Looking forward to the meditations coming up and thanks for sharing x
Thank you for this newsletter that resonate so much with me right now. We are a French family and decided to move back to France during the summer after living 12 years in Canada. We have left everything and now trying to navigate the uncertainty of this return, settling in a new home, finding new job for me and trying to make it work with 2 very young kids. I’m also an anxious person and I know I always imagine the worst case scenario , so really resonate when you talk about trying to grow vs leaving out of fear. I’m sure you’re making the right move for the long term, I hope we are too and that at some point it will feel more obvious!
Love these articles Ella! This is such a good one to sit with. As a somatic therapist, this is something I talk to clients about all the time, we’re taught to pick a lane emotionally, like we’re either sad or happy, but that’s just not how being human works. Two emotions can live in the same body at the same time, and honestly, most days we’re holding far more than two. Right now I’m holding grief in my heart, and also so much joy being on holiday with my family. Both true. Both allowed. That’s not a contradiction, that’s just being alive 💛
I love receiving your weekly newsletter & updates…. But, it would be lovely if it was easier to navigate the older ones. When trying to find a recipe you have previously mention & i would love to try. Or listen to a meditation without scrolling for a link, etc. I’m currently scrolling looking for your Chimichurri recipe which (i think you suggested serving with new potatoes). Just a suggestion…….x
We totally relate to nervous system changes when comparing living in the city to the country side. All the drilling, works, loud cars, awkward interactions on streets with no hello and lack of community feeling sometimes. In our late twenties we feel obliged to stay in the city for the social life but we are quickly leaning towards a move out
Hard relate to all this Ella - particularly wanting the right decision to feel obvious and clear. I used to be a big believer in “signs” but these days it is very much about simply trusting myself and intuition. Over the years I have ignored my gut and paid dearly for it. Now, I listen. Even if it doesn’t make sense, even if it’s inconvenient. Regrets are much harder to live with than mistakes! Wishing you all the best for the move. And you’re such a lovely genuine person, I’m sure you’ll have no trouble making friends in your new neighbourhood ❤️
Team “recently discovered coexisting emotions” ✌️ I love being brave and follow my intuition but I am also always anxious about all the details to be figured out and craving stability
I couldn’t agree more about two conflicting emotions and this couldn’t have come up at a more apt time for me. I’m moving back to the UK from Kenya because my job has finished, so we don’t really have a choice. We are all devastated to be leaving (Kenya is AMAZING) but also so excited to see family and friends and show the kids the UK. Bitter sweet. Good luck with the move 💛
Only joined Substack this morning, and this is the very very first article I have read...but I think I'm going to like it here..! Thank you Ella for sharing this, and for articulating so well some very relatable feelings. Looking forward to following your adventures and next life chapter x
Thank you so much for sharing. Sending good vibes that the move goes well! I'm also learning that emotions, thoughts, feelings...they're not black and white. I guess maybe that's what they mean by the term bittersweet!
Best of luck with the move, it sounds like it’s going to be a wonderful new chapter! Can’t wait to see and hear more about it ☺️ I wondered if you have managed to share recordings of the breathwork/meditations? I know you mentioned you might do so via a podcast. I haven’t managed to attend any of the 7.30pm sessions and not sure I will over the coming weeks as it’s my toddler bedtime at our house 😅 xx

I can definitely look at it. I think it’s the nature of substack though but will see what I can do x

Your heart always knows when it’s right. So pleased for you! Also, you would love The Glassmake by Tracy Chevalier, if you haven’t already read it. 💚✨
Thanks for the exciting life update. Can’t wait to see your new kitchen and garden 😊💕
